A gentle method of massage used to relax tension and relieve muscle soreness
Swedish massage is the most common form of massage.
It involves a range of strokes from mild to deep on the arms, neck, back and the legs. Techniques used vary from gliding (effleurage), kneading for deeper penetration of the muscles (petrissage) and tapping using the sides of the hands (tapotement) to light shaking. Warming the muscles using friction (fast rubbing of the hands over an area) is an essential part of Swedish Massage too. It has therapeutic uses for stiff, tired and sore muscles as well as being used for stress relief and relaxation.
